Words Can Change the World breaks open the Australian music industry, and explores its darker impacts on independent musicians.
The creative team behind five sell-out seasons of A Saucy Little Secret are back, developing a new, collaborative multi-arts theatre work, with a powerful arts collective of local theatre-makers, musicians, artists and writers.
This production is a character driven piece about the life of musicians in our time, using the original music of Mama Red & the Dark Blues as its frame.
The co-created production follows the semi-fictionalised experiences of six independent musicians in the 21st century, exploring some of the pervasive pain points in the music industry, from financial stress, sexual harassment, ageism, sexism and political invisibility, to depression and creative frustration, and drawing on the lived experience of the contributing artists and their creative communities.
While it follows some stark emotional ebbs and flows, the show’s ultimate resolution is powerful and uplifting, reminding audiences of the power of the creative arts to not only entertain, but to have lasting impacts on the social fabric of our time.
